The greatest advantage over a printed version: the information is always close at hand for the driver, apart from which the system offers rapid, comfortable search possibilities. The system includes both descriptions on vehicle operation as well as on the operation of the COMAND Online system. Another highlight is the visual search function. This multimedia search leads – via a 360–degree view of the vehicle – to the desired information, which can be called up by means of the rotary pushbutton on the centre console. Depending on market version, the information can be called up in up to 17 different languages.

An additional aerial is used for digital radio (DAB). This provides improved reception at near CD quality, a broader selection of stations, as well as more detailed programme and traffic information. Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic according to network coverage and signal strength.

The preinstallation in the armrest with a universal interface for diverse cradles enables problem–free use of different mobile telephones as well as the use of the extensive range of functions offered by the mobile telephone. The integrated, invisible exterior aerial ensures the best possible reception.

An entirely newly developed front bass system is deployed in the new SL Roadster. Some of the loudspeakers are integrated in the vehicle body. The two front bass system loudspeakers in conjunction with the other six standard loudspeakers create a brilliant, balanced sound as well as an improved bass performance, in particular when driving with the roof open.

The Media Interface with consumer cable kit is a universal interface in the centre console with which mobile audio/video devices can be connected to the multimedia system. You can comfortably access a USB stick, for example, or your iPod® using the vehicle’s control and display units.

The new COMAND Online multimedia system is the highlight of the new telematics generation. This innovative system features an Internet browser, combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions and also includes the Speed Limit Assist function. The optimised control concept makes operation more user–friendly and intelligent than ever before. The TV tuner makes it possible to watch television during driving breaks. The receiver unit processes both analogue and digital signals and is controlled using the COMAND or COMAND Online control and display system, whose display is positioned in the driver's central field of vision and also shows the image.

Sound output is via the vehicle's speaker system. The receiving aerial is integrated in the rear window. At speeds above approx. 6 km/h, the image is switched off for safety reasons and reappears when the speed falls below this limit.
