The excruciatingly technical Sepang International Circuit holds special relevance for the Silver Arrows. It is home to title partner PETRONAS; Malaysia's foremost oil company. Sepang waits in eager anticipation to welcome the brand new team MERCEDES GP PETRONAS onto home ground.
The Sepang Circuit was opened in 1999 and has been a mainstay since, featuring in every championship over the past 10 years. This circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke and his indulgence on this track was long and fast straights coupled with 15 tight and high G-Force turns making this one of the most technically demanding circuits in the entire Formula 1 championship. The wide track was made to invite overtaking and the vivacious drivers never fail to live up to this invitation.
2009 was a difficult year at the Sepang. Torrential rains forced the race to an early close - after only 33 laps. As less than 75 percent of the race was completed, only half the points were awarded to each positioning. The BRAWN-MERCEDES team placed 1st at the hands of Jenson Button in 2009 at Sepang and young Nico Rosberg placed 8th.
With hope and some luck, 2010 will provide the sunshine so that Sepang can once again push drivers to the edge and fans over the top.
