In 2008, Singapore hosted its inaugural race - not on a track but twisting and ripping through the heart of this cosmopolitan city. To add to the hype, this was to be Formula 1's first night-time event.
The Singapore circuit is set in the Marina Bay area and winds its 5.073 km long way around some of the country's newest and oldest. There are 23 turns which whisk the drivers past icons such as the Singapore Flyer, St. Andrew's Cathedral, the Old Supreme Court, the Esplanade and Marina Square. Coupled with straights that allow the cars to hit speeds in excess of 300km/h, this dynamic setup creates a truly intense race set to a fantastic city backdrop.
Last year, Singapore was thrilled by the success of the first F1 Rocks Singapore concert. The party event enjoyed headlining acts such as Beyonce, The Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt and ZZ Top. This year, F1 Rocks Singapore has promised to return to add more dazzle to this already extravagant night event.
2010 and Formula 1 comes to Singapore for the third time and races will run from the 24th to the 26th of September. The Grandstands and Hospitality area accommodate an easy 80,000 fans and the event is truly celebrated by both Singaporeans and visitors.
Last year's race saw the BRAWN-MERCEDES team place 1st in the Constructors' Championship and Nico Rosberg placed 11th. We all wait in eager anticipation to catch the newest Silver Arrow - the MGP W01, as it slashes through the night and to see how far Nico and teammate Schumacher will take MERCEDES GP PETRONAS in the team's first night race ever.
