BlueEFFICIENCY from Mercedes-Benz stands for pioneering efficiency technology as well as innovative packages of measures based on optimising fuel consumption and emission levels.
BlueEFFICIENCY measures are comprehensive vehicle optimisations that help to save fuel and ease the burden on the environment. In the C-Class Estate, too, the most efficient engines are combined with the best features available, to keep fuel consumption to a minimum.
These include:
In order for driver to be able to check how efficiently they are driving and make adjustments where required, the ECO display shows an evaluation of driving style in the speedometer field of the instrument cluster.

The ECO start/stop function reduces fuel consumption and emissions by switching off the engine automatically when the car comes to a stop (e.g. in traffic jams or at traffic lights). If a vehicle is equipped with the ECO start/stop function, a starter/generator is installed in place of the starter. Intelligent control electronics allow the starter/generator to supply the electrical energy for the vehicle’s electrical system and, in starter mode, the torque required to start the engine. Potential savings: A shift recommendation display in the instrument cluster prompts the driver to perform an early upshift to save fuel.
Significant savings can also come from a series of small contributions. With the aim of making the C-Class Estate more fuel efficient, the Mercedes-Benz engineers examined all the main components with regard to their energy usage and found ways of getting them to work more economically. Overview of efficient energy management measures:

The rolling resistance of the tyres has a big influence on a vehicle’s consumption. For this reason, Mercedes-Benz deploys tyres with low rolling resistance in the C-Class Estate as well. They are formed in a different way and use a different rubber blend to conventional tyres. With unchanged handling and braking characteristics, the rolling resistance can be markedly reduced with them.
The optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission features an innovative torque converter with greater dynamic response and durability, a further reduced noise level and significantly lower fuel consumption . The latter is also as a result of the standard ECO start/stop function[2] together with a consistently adjusted engine speed level. |
Direct injection, high-precision injectors, increased compression and turbocharging in the latest engine generation of petrol engines generate outstanding torque, and output at exceptionally low noise levels. Innovative engine technology has significantly reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
The C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition special model is the highlight in terms of fuel economy and ecological efficiency. Thanks to a comprehensive range of measures including rolling-resistance-optimised tyres, electromechanical steering and a wealth of further measures, it has been possible to reduce the CO2 emissions of this C-Class Estate to 114 g/km per kilometre.
