ADAPTIVE BRAKE with HOLD function, brake drying function and Hill-Start Assist
The ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety by helping to perform critical braking manoeuvres with the basic function of the ABS anti-lock braking system while convenience functions help make it easier to master challenging driving situations.
These include the HOLD function, which is activated with a short press of the brake pedal when stationary. It prevents the car from inadvertently rolling forwards or backwards when stopped at traffic lights or in stop-and-go traffic. Hill-Start Assist provides support when moving off both forwards and backwards on a hill. The vehicle is held stationary for a brief moment after the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal, thereby providing enough time for him to switch his foot to the accelerator pedal, without the vehicle immediately starting to roll.
The "brake drying" function removes the layer of water which may have built up on the brake discs in wet conditions, thereby helping to ensure that full braking pressure is available without any delay. And with the "priming" program, the brake linings are prepared as soon as the driver quickly takes his foot off the accelerator. This shortens the response time of the brakes and can help to reduce the stopping distance.

Front airbags with multi-stage deployment, headbags and sidebags for driver and front passenger and kneebag for the driver
Active bonnet, reversible (pedestrian protection system)
The active bonnet function can reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians or cyclists if it detects that they are involved in a collision with the bonnet. To cushion the blow, the bonnet can raise approximately five centimetres at the rear by means of spring force.

Acceleration skid control (ASR)
If ATTENTION ASSIST detects typical signs of a driver falling asleep momentarily at the wheel, the assistance system suggests taking a break. It monitors the driver’s behaviour – primarily using the steering angle sensor on the steering column. If the profile deviates from the previously measured individual profile, visual and audible warnings can be issued.

Headlamp Assist (automatic headlamps)
The headlamp assist system reduces the strain on the driver by automatically activating/deactivating vehicle lighting. When the system is in operation, a light sensor on the upper edge of the windscreen measures the light intensity outside the vehicle and switches on the low-beam headlamps, tail lamps and number plate illumination when conditions get dark.

PRE-SAFE® occupant protection system
The preventive occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® system can recognise critical driving scenarios at an early stage and activate safety systems that can reduce the chance of injury to vehicle occupants. This is based on PRE-SAFE® monitoring sensor data from systems such as ESP® and BAS and can identify situations such as noticeable oversteer/understeer, critical steering manoeuvres at high speeds, panic braking and emergency stops.
In critical driving situations, the systems can respond by tightening the seat belts, moving the front passenger seat into a more favourable crash position for a collision (in conjunction with the optional memory package) and closing the side windows.

Headlamp range adjustment
NECK-PRO crash-responsive front head restraints
Activated when the system registers a rear-end collision, NECK-PRO head restraints for driver and front passenger can reduce the risk of sustaining a whiplash injury. If a collision occurs, they ensure that the head receives support and the load on the spine is reduced at an early stage by employing a spring mechanism to move the head restraints forwards and upwards. The restraints can be manually returned to the original position after activation.

Projection-beam headlamps and fog lamps including daytime driving lights
The H7 projection-beam headlamps and fog lamps deliver outstanding safety in dark conditions or when visibility is poor by providing a wider and more uniform degree of road surface illumination. Optimised lens and beam technology also ensure a greater range for the low-beam headlamps. And daytime driving lamps enhance the vehicle’s visibility.
