Assistance systems are designed to make life easier. In this respect, Speed Limit Assist, the reversing camera and Active Parking Assist enhance the feeling of comfort and safety in the new CLS Shooting Brake.

DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control (optional)[1] DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control helps the driver to maintain a specified (timed) distance from the vehicle ahead when travelling at speeds of 0 to 200 km/h.
Active Parking Assist, including PARKTRONIC (optional) The Active Parking Assist helps the driver to find a parking space and to park. Thanks to its ultrasonic sensors the system can detect whether a parallel parking space is large enough for the vehicle. The driver starts the parking procedure by steering the vehicle towards the space indicated, engaging reverse gear and confirming the dialogue in the instrument cluster. The Active Parking Assist system then takes over parking in the chosen parking space using steering motors (at a vehicle speed of up to 10 km/h). The driver only needs to work the accelerator and brake pedals.
LED bi-xenon headlamps, including LED parking lamps and LED turn indicators, LED tail lamps[2] The bi-xenon headlamps provide greater brightness, a larger range of light and wider illumination of the road surface than conventional headlamps. When the vehicle drives into a turn the system also activates a fog lamp, providing significantly better illumination for the area to the sides of the vehicle and improving safety. The integrated headlamp cleaning system is a simple and effective means of keeping the headlamps clean. Dynamic sensor-controlled headlamp range adjustment automatically compensates for any vehicle position changes caused by braking, accelerating, and vehicle load, avoiding the danger of dazzling oncoming drivers.
ADAPTIVE BRAKE system with HOLD function, brake drying function and Hill-Start Assist The ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety by helping to perform critical braking manoeuvres with the basic function of the ABS anti-lock braking system while convenience functions make it easier to master challenging driving situations. Supporting HOLD function: activating the HOLD function of the ADAPTIVE BRAKE system by firmly depressing the brake pedal prevents the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when stationary at traffic lights or in stop-and-go traffic. Extra help: the Hill-Start Assist function prevents the vehicle from rolling back unexpectedly on inclines when moving from the brake to the accelerator pedal. Full braking power without delay: the "brake drying" function removes the film of water that forms on the brake discs in wet conditions. For an even quicker response: the "priming" function shortens the braking response time by priming brake linings whenever you take your foot off the accelerator quickly.
Speed Limit Assist (optional) [3] With the help of the camera integrated in the windscreen, the Speed Limit Assist system can recognise traffic signs and display in the central display the speed limits they announce. This can reduce the danger of overlooking a speed limit, particularly on stretches of road with frequently changing traffic signs or along routes with road works. In order to verify the data retrieved via optical sensors and the subsequent display, the system compares the values registered with the digital road maps of the navigation system.
ISOFIX child seat attachment system The ISOFIX child seat attachment system is a quick, convenient, vehicle-independent system conforming to ISO standards. It allows quick and easy child seat attachment in the vehicle rear. Its fixed anchorage points ensure a high degree of protection in the event of an accident. A special ISOFIX child seat engages in the attachment points housed in the lower area of the backrest. This creates a rigid connection with the vehicle structure, ensuring that seat movements caused by slack or incorrectly fitted seat belts can be avoided. TopTether is an additional safeguard attached behind the rear head restraints. It further reduces the risk of the child seat tilting forwards in the event of a crash.
LED Intelligent Light System (optional) [4] The dynamic LED High Performance headlamps in conjunction with an LED daytime running lamp strip in the bumper cover are innovative aspects of the vehicle light array. The novel, unmistakable design of the LED high performance headlamps underscores the dynamism of the vehicle design, lending the front a particularly high value appeal. Used by Mercedes-Benz for the first time in the CLS, LED technology combines maximum beam output with a long service life and minimum energy consumption. Delivering a colour temperature of 5500 K, the LED high-performance headlamps are closer to the temperature of daylight than their bi-xenon counterparts and are very pleasant on the eyes. When driving at night, the "C" form of the LED position lamps makes the headlamps easily recognisable. An active component of the safety concept, the Intelligent Light System ensures the best possible visibility in all weather conditions and diverse traffic scenarios. When encountering oncoming traffic, negotiating bends, fog or simply driving on open stretches of road, the system adapts by adjusting the light characteristics accordingly. Brings light to the darkness. In Country Light Mode, the light from the low-beam headlamps is distributed in such a way that the edge of the carriageway is significantly better illuminated than with conventional headlamps. Dynamic increase. Motorway Mode is automatically activated in two levels: From 90 km/h, the system increases the output of the bi-xenon lamps. From 110 km/h, the headlamp setting on the inside of the traffic lane also changes to uniformly illuminate the entire width of the lane for a distance of up to around 120 metres. Enhanced safety. The Extended Fog Lamp function improves visibility when fog is present. The left-hand bi-xenon headlamp pivots outwards and the light cone is simultaneously lowered. This light function is automatically activated as soon as the rear fog lamp is switched on (provided the vehicle is not travelling faster than 70 km/h). Follows every bend. The Active Light Function follows the driver’s steering angle: Sensor data on the steering angle, yaw rate and vehicle speed allow the bi-xenon headlamps to pivot to the side in fractions of a second as soon as the vehicle enters a bend. With the Cornering Light Function, the cornering lamps automatically switch on when the driver activates the turn indicator or turns the steering wheel. Boosting visibility. The LED daytime driving lamps make it easier for other road users to spot the vehicle and the integrated headlamp cleaning system minimises dirt build-up on the lights. LEDs are also used by the front position lamps and tail lights, the indicator lamps and number plate lamps. Extended vision without touching a button. The Adaptive Highbeam Assist provides the best possible low-beam headlamp range. This enables you to see pedestrians, cyclists or obstacles at an earlier stage than with conventional low-beam headlamps. A camera is used to control headlamp range adjustment and the main beams in such a way that the road has the best possible illumination in line with the current driving scenario and the road users ahead. If the system registers oncoming vehicles or vehicles ahead, it continuously adjusts the beam range so that the cone of light ends before it meets these vehicles. The high beam automatically switches on when no other road users are detected. A special feature: The gentle transition from one type of light to the other without an abrupt change in intensity.
Night View Assist Plus with pedestrian recognition (optional) Night View Assist PLUS improves visibility in the dark without making use of the main-beam headlamps. It also helps the driver's orientation, makes possible an earlier detection of persons and obstacles, and improves spatial orientation when driving on unknown roads. A camera scans the road illuminated by an anti-dazzle infrared headlamp and transmits a grey-scale image to the COMAND display. This helps the driver to recognise obstacles, poorly lit road users and the course of badly lit roads faster and more easily. In addition, pedestrians identified by the system can be highlighted and seen more clearly thanks to the pedestrian recognition function.
NECK-PRO luxury head restraints (optional) [5] The NECK-PRO luxury head restraints can provide support for the heads of the occupants sooner in the event of a rear impact, thus helping to reduce the risk of whiplash injury. In a rear-end collision exceeding a certain predefined intensity, pre-tensioned springs in the interior of the head restraints are released, moving these towards the front and upwards. This leads to a better support of the occupant’s head.
NECK-PRO head restraints Activated in the event of a relevant rear-end collision, NECK-PRO head restraints for driver and front passenger can reduce the risk of sustaining a whiplash injury. If a collision occurs, they ensure that the head receives support and the load on the spine is reduced at an earlier stage by employing a spring mechanism to move the head restraints forwards and upwards. The restraints can be manually returned to the original position after activation.
Reversing camera (optional) The reversing camera offers convenience and added safety. Integrated in the boot lid, the camera transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the COMAND display. The camera image not only makes parking easier but also aids in manoeuvring on terrain with visibility limitations.
