An exceptional result in terms of agility, smoothness of operation, consumption figures and emissions has been achieved by the Mercedes-Benz engineers with the new-concept 4-cylinder diesel powerplant.
Technologies from the BlueEFFICIENCY package were taken for each model in order to achieve the greatest possible degree of environmental friendliness. Through the use of further improved common-rail injection systems with injection pressures of up to 2000 bar, high-precision piezo-injectors that enable a particularly rapid and precise metering of the injected fuel, as well as a new turbocharger concept, the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has a maximum torque of up to 400 Nm (E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY up to 500 Nm).
Newly-developed ceramic fast glowplugs improve the cold running characteristics, while two Lanchester balancer shafts enhance smoothness of operation, enabling the highest degree of ride comfort.
All diesel engines also meet the EU5 exhaust gas limits, and the standard particulate filter ensures further significant reductions in particulate emissions.
