Traditionally Mercedes-Benz stands for a high degree of safety in road traffic. With around a dozen new or enhanced assistance systems our engineers have now written a new chapter in the long history of passenger car safety. The spotlight is now focused even more brightly on avoiding traffic accidents and reducing the severity of accidents.
The sensors of the new safety technology provide the new E-Class with optional "senses", including radar and camera technology, which can look far ahead and monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. If these radar sensors detect, for example, an imminent rear-end collision, they first warn the driver and can then assist by actuating the brakes if required.
The Adaptive Highbeam Assist function represents a further milestone on the way to achieving the vision of accident-free driving. The system is available as an option (as a component of the optional light package) and always provides the best possible road illumination. With illuminated oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead, Highbeam Assist automatically adjusts the headlamps to the dipped-beam setting. In the dipped-beam setting the headlamp range is adjusted so as not to dazzle other road users (the headlamp range of the low-beam headlamps can be extended to up to 300 metres). Manual switching between low beam and high beam is no longer necessary.
