The Driving Assistance package consists of DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS, PRE-SAFE® Brake as well as Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist.
The DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control system helps keep the vehicle at the desired distance from vehicles travelling ahead, operating in the speed range from 0 to 200 km/h. Radar sensors constantly measure the distance and regulate the vehicle’s speed. If the distance to a vehicle travelling ahead narrows down too fast, the Brake Assist Plus system (BAS Plus) warns the driver by means of an audible signal, and at the same time it automatically calculates the brake pressure required to avoid a collision. If necessary, the PRE-SAFE® brake increases brake pressure into a full brake application for an emergency stop.
The Lane Keeping Assist feature uses a camera which registers clear lane markings and can warn the driver by means of steering wheel vibrations if he unintentionally drifts out of the lane.
The radar-based Blind Spot Assist uses two radar sensors to monitor the blind spot at speeds above 30 km/h. If a vehicle in the monitored area is detected, a red warning triangle lights up in the corresponding exterior mirror. If in this situation the driver indicates a turn, a warning tone sounds and the red warning lamp starts to flash, to warn the driver against the danger of changing lane.
