BlueEFFICIENCY from Mercedes-Benz stands for pioneering efficiency technology as well as innovative packages of measures based on optimising fuel consumption and emission levels.
The BlueEFFICIENCY measures are comprehensive vehicle optimisations which save fuel and ease the burden on the environment. The new C-Class Coupé also combines the most efficient engines with the optimum features available to keep fuel consumption to a minimum.
These include:
The ECO start/stop function reduces fuel consumption and vehicle emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is standing still and when decelerating. As soon as a gear is engaged, the accelerator is depressed or the driver's foot leaves the brake, the engine restarts automatically.
Significant savings can also come from a series of small contributions. With the aim of making the new C-Class Coupé more fuel efficient, the Mercedes-Benz engineers examined all the main components with regard to their energy usage and found ways of getting them to work more economically. Overview of efficient energy management measures:
| |
The rolling resistance of the tyres has a big influence on a vehicle's consumption. For this reason, Merecedes-Benz deploys tyres with low rolling resistance in the new C-Class Coupé as well. They are formed in a different way and use a different rubber blend to conventional tyres. With unchanged handling and braking characteristics, the rolling resistance can be markedly reduced with them.
The lower a vehicle’s wind resistance (Cd value), the better its energy efficiency can be. Using intelligent design strategies aiming for improved aerodynamics, the Mercedes-Benz engineers have achieved a Cd value of 0.26 for the new C-Class Coupé. Amongst other measures, the shapes of the front and rear aprons and the spoiler lip on the upper boot lid were designed to be aerodynamically efficient; and the external mirrors were positioned with better aerodynamics in mind.
The optimised 7-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission features a new generation of torque converters which have more dynamic response, greater durability, a further reduced noise level and significantly less fuel consumption. The latter is also as a result of the standard-fit ECO start/stop function together with a systematically adjusted rpm level. |
Direct injection, high-precision injectors, increased compression and turbocharging in the new engine generation of petrol engines generate outstanding torque, output and noise reduction figures. Innovative engine technology has significantly reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
